Jan. 30th, 2013 12:26 pmA painfully geeky, cringe-inducing cosmological joke: two competing theories striving to explain the missing mass mysteries were dubbed MACHOs (MAssive Compact Halo Objects) and WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). WIMPs (aka dark matter) won, by the way.
Ну и уж заодно оставлю тут еще одну космологическую байку, которую уже пару раз рассказывала Диме: Alpher-Bete-Gamow paper:
In physical cosmology, the Alpher–Bethe–Gamow paper, or αβγ paper, was created by Ralph Alpher, then a physics PhD student, and his advisor George Gamow. Gamow humorously decided to add the name of his friend—the eminent physicist Hans Bethe—to this paper in order to create the whimsical author list of Alpher, Bethe, Gamow, a play on the Greek letters α, β, and γ. А в книге Гамова "Creation of the universe" упоминаются результаты, полученные Альфером и физиком по имени R. C. Herman "who stubbornly refuses to change his name to Delter". :)
